Meditation & Dharma Talk

 

Sunday Morning: 10am - 11:30am

sunday Evening: 7pm - 8:30pm

These weekly Dharma Talk & Discussion classes offer a guided meditation, talk and discussion centered around the core teachings of the Buddha. All are welcome. No experience necessary.

Both of the weekly Dharma Talk & Discussion groups will begin with a period of guided mindfulness meditation or heart practice meditation (about 25 – 35 mins), leaving some time after for questions or comments around your meditation experience or the practice in general. Next, the group facilitator will offer a Dharma Talk (about 30 – 45 mins), which is a reflection on a topic related to Buddhist practice. Lastly, there will be some time for open discussion, allowing for questions, general comments, or personal reflections on the topic for the evening. No one is required to speak or participate during the group, however, all are welcome to share during the open discussion. There is no experience necessary for this class.

Refuge Recovery

 

Monday & Friday: 7:30pm - 8:30pm

Refuge Recovery is a mindfulness-based addiction recovery community that practices and utilizes Buddhist philosophy as the foundation of the recovery process. Drawing inspiration from the core teachings of the Four Noble Truths, emphasis is placed on both knowledge and empathy as a means for overcoming addiction and its causes. Those struggling with any form of addiction greatly benefit when they are able to understand the suffering that addiction has created while developing compassion for the pain they have experienced. We hope to serve you, and meet you on the path.

Please note: RR group leaders are assigned at monthly RR business meetings. These facilitators are not empowered Buddhist teachers or approved facilitators for Against the Stream Nashville, but instead, are trusted peers from the larger RR community.

 
 
 

Tuesday & Thursday

Yoga Practice Session

Tuesday: 5PM – 6PM

Thursday: 10AM – 11AM

This is a donation based vinyasa yoga class. Open to all - no experience necessary.

The Buddha encouraged the cultivation of embodied awareness as the foundation for the development of mindfulness. This vinyasa yoga class offers an opportunity to bring mindfulness into your daily life through the power of mindful movement. This class will be a good fit for all, no experience is necessary.

WEDNESDAY

Mindfulness Practice Session

Wednesday: 7:00PM – 8:30PM

This weekly class will provide a fundamental framework for the practice of mindfulness. Meditation instructions will be offered, followed by a Q&A, and then a talk on a mindfulness-related topic. This is a great class for those new to the practice of Mindfulness.

The weekly Mindfulness Practice Session will begin with a period of guided mindfulness meditation or heart practice meditation (about 25 – 35 mins), leaving some time after for questions or comments around your meditation experience or the practice in general. WEDNESDAY MORNING

Early Morning Silent Meditation Practice

Time: 7AM – 8AM

Alas! An opportunity to just sit quietly and practice meditation, without the annoyance of guidance or instructions. You can simply show up and meditate. Drop in at any point during the hour. Enjoy!

THURSDAYS

Buddhism & The 12 Steps

Time: 7PM – 8:15PM

This meditation and discussion group is intended for those who are interested in sharing their personal recovery experience within a peer-led recovery community. In general, the group focuses on the bridge between Buddhist practices and principles & the practices and principles of a 12 step recovery program. Inspired by Kevin Griffin's book, "One Breath At A Time", this group is interested in applying a Buddhist lens to recovery. During the group, there will be a silent meditation period and a short synopsis and talk on a traditional 12 step topic, followed by an open group discussion.

Anyone is welcome to attend this group -- both those who are committed to 12 step recovery as well as those who are simply curious.

Attendance is on a drop in basis. Participants are not required to attend a certain number of sessions. All are invited, even those who are committed to regular attendance.

2ND THURSDAY OF THE MONTH

Buddhist Practice & Discussion for Helping Professionals

Time: 7PM – 8:30PM

This group will focus on topics and themes related to the intersection of Western & Buddhist psychology, as well as general mindfulness & brahmavihara (heart practices). We hope to provide insightful & meaningful dialogue about integrating Buddhist practices with clients, but primarily intend the group as a means of supporting helping professionals through practice, discussion, and community.

ATS Facilitator, Rachael Tanner-Smith LPC-MHSP, and ATS Executive Director, Andrew Chapman LMSW, will facilitate this group, focusing on topics and themes related to the intersection of Western & Buddhist psychology, as well as general mindfulness & brahmavihara (heart practices). We hope to provide insightful & meaningful dialogue about integrating Buddhist practices with clients, but primarily intend the group as a means of supporting helping professionals through practice, discussion, and community. There is absolutely no ‘experience’ requirement for participation. There are no dues or fees associated with the group, but donations are welcomed and appreciated. THE ONLY REQUIREMENT: you must be either a licensed mental health practitioner or currently enrolled in graduate school or working towards a mental health licensure

 

2ND FRIDAY OF THE MONTH

The Queer Inclusive:

LGBTQIA+ Meditation Group

Time: 6PM – 7PM

Monthly Mindfulness group for anyone identified as LGBTQIA+. We will meet and have a mindfulness or heart based meditation practice for 25 – 30 minutes followed by a Dharma talk on topics to help expand your mindfulness practice and bring it into your day to day life. The session will end with open discussion with personal reflection, comments and questions. The talks will be geared towards topics that impact the LGBTQI community.  No experience needed.

 

 

4TH MONDAY OF THE MONTH

Intuitive Eating Group

Time: 6PM – 7PM

This group is focused on learning to create a healthy relationship with food, mind & body! We will meditate & discuss how to break free from the repression of "diet culture" and into a more intuitive relationship with our bodies and food.
